With shipments of the heavy cream version 2 around the corner, I’ve also been busy working on designs for the new delrin spin top. After throwing throwing some thoughts and ideas around, I’m going to start prototyping a spin top with a thrust bearing. Conventional bearing tops uses the same bearings as a yoyo bearing. This works, however the load and force from a top comes from bottom and pointed tip. When ever it is dropped or hits the ground, there’s always a chance for the bearing to break because yoyo bearings are not designed to handle load on the side of the bearing. With a thrust bearing it can handle large axial load. I’ll let you guys know how prototyping goes.
lol
nice
hopefully it works out for u
i was going to buy a spintasticis but ill wait
hey Brian, trust me..it’ll be worth the wait:D Delrin Body, Steel tip.
Woot! Seriously, yay!
how much force is required to preload those bearings? It sounds like an awesome idea man. I was thinking about using angular bearings for hubstacks and tops because of the force direction but gave up due to the preloading being annoying.
hey Brian V, expect to pay WAY more for this top than the spintasticis.
i have the yyf acrobat and ill try not to understate it but its the best top in the world! i would love to see how the Crucial top compares when it comes out! and it would be mind blowing if its better!
outstanding news!-I think Delrin is the ultimate spin top material and the thrust bearing is an innovative twist. Being able to convert to fixed tip play would be a big fat plus. I hope to play one sometime soon! If you want any input on weights sizes, tip shapes, etc head on over to the spin top forum at Ta0.com.
Tim, I’m not sure how much force, but I’m going to be using an o-ring the size of the thrust bearing to give it compression and help serve as a shock absorber. The target price of this top is $75.
Awesome, I can’t wait! I see good times ahead for poptop and the SpinQueen
We love us some delrin tops, and the new bearing design looks sweet! It reminds me the old hub bearings from of my vintage bicycles…very sexy!
Cool. I’ve never seen a bearing like that for a top! That’s a Crucial innovation!
Have been checking for updates on this project…anxious to hear of any progress. What’s been happening on this front?
still waiting (patiently) for an update…
